Usain Bolt Almost Became a 400-Metre Runner Instead of the Fastest Man Alive
Before breaking world records in the 100 metres, Usain Bolt had to convince his coach to let him race the distance that would make him famous.

Usain Bolt became the fastest man in history by running 100 metres in 9.58 seconds. But years before that record, his coach wanted him to run four times as far.
Glen Mills believed Bolt's 6-foot-5 frame and long stride could make him a strong 400-metre runner. Bolt had other ideas. He was already an outstanding 200-metre sprinter, but he wanted to try the 100.
Mills wasn't convinced. So the two made a deal.
